Professional Development

It’s really freaking me out that I will probably have a real job a year from now and could be anywhere in the country (world?). I have no idea what I’m going to be doing at this time next year and no idea how I’m supposed to be preparing for this. Hopefully my summer internship will help me feel ready, because I certainly don’t now!

Anyways, I’ve been *trying* to do some stuff to make myself more ready for the professional world, like a graphic design class and creating my own logo (we’re all brands, aren’t we?).

Image

I’ve put it in my e-mail signature, and I think it looks pretty professional and simple. I mean obviously my total of four hours playing in Photoshop before this isn’t going to make me a pro, but for what it is and the 15 minutes it took to make, I feel pretty proud. At least I can do SOMETHING in graphic design.

I also made this little unfinished spoof of the Atonement poster (which I haven’t even seen) in my class featuring my long lost love, Stewart (she’s a girl).

ImageHere’s the original image:

ImageI think with a little more blue/gray overlay on the top picture and the text at the bottom, it could be pretty good. Also describes Stewart and my friendship pretty well (the “edginess” thing is an inside joke; I’m not just weird).

ImageNote: I didn’t design the poster.

I just finished up an important part of really cool marketing campaign for a musical on campus called Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. You can read a story about my social media campaign in the Daily Northwestern and see a funny spoof article on Sherman Ave. We basically staged a fake presidential campaign for Northwestern’s student government elections for Andrew Jackson, the protagonist of the musical. It was a lot of fun and reached over 10,000 people on Facebook. I got to play around with some cool marketing tools with Facebook pages as well as feel like I’m doing something creative (and honestly just trolling Northwestern haha). I think people were pretty receptive and at least had some fun with it. We’ve entered the “normal” marketing phase, and the show goes up May 16-18.

ImageI went home over the weekend, but I think I’ll save that post for later.

WHO KNOWS WHAT COOL PROJECTS I’LL WORK ON UNTIL NEXT TIME PEEPS ❤
